Two Level cages: what Rat Mother want. Rodent Caging Evolution and welfare Outcomes

A very interesting and complete seminar has been presented at the Recent Aalas Conference on animal welfare as crucial consideration in the development and management of housing systems for rodents.

A presentation has particularly addressed this topic.

The presenter, Sylvied cloutier, from Washington State University (Pullman WA) has covered topics on rat mother and pups interaction, innovative design proposed by the new Double Decker Rat Cage from Tecniplast.

The audience has learnt how changes in cage designs or physical environment can affect animal wellbeing.

Environmental opportunities has been discussed, including the domains of social housing, rest and refuge, activities and locomotion, manipulation of food and other objects, with implication for behavior, vocalization and breeding.
